Spring 2022 Auto Maintenance Tips

Your car may need extra attention and care after you spend time getting around in the winter season. The environmental elements and salt from the roads can cause your vehicle to suffer from premature wear and tear. Here are a few steps to take to restore the quality of your car and make it more reliable for the spring season.

Schedule a Check-Up

Take your car to a local mechanic to schedule a check-up to determine if any repairs are needed. The technician will check the battery connection, interior and exterior lighting, brakes, belts and hoses, filters and fluids, and the battery. Check-ups are also easy to do yourself if you follow the owner's manual that is in the glove compartment.

Replace the Windshield Wipers

Your windshield wipers likely need to be replaced after the winter season after they're more in use. The wipers may be causing streaks to form on the windshield, or the rubber may be separating from the wiper blades. Most windshield wipers last an average of six to 12 months before they need to be replaced.

Deodorize the Cabin

If the interior of your car smells dingy, deodorize the cabin by leaving a box of baking soda inside of the vehicle overnight. Roll up the windows to allow the baking soda to absorb the odors. A bag of coffee grinds will also work effectively and will leave the cabin smelling fresh.

Take Off the Winter Tires

If you want better fuel efficiency during the spring season, remove your winter tires and replace them with standard tires. This will also allow the winter tires to last longer for when you need them next year. Your new tires also won't kick up as much debris on the road while getting around.

Take a Look at Your Emergency Kit

Use a checklist to determine if the emergency kit in your car has all of the necessary supplies. It should be stocked with bottles of water, spark plugs, gloves, snacks, blankets, flashlights, and batteries. You can even add a spare tire to the car to ensure you can get back on the road if you get a flat.
