On March 31st, Hyundai introduced an innovative demo project in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, to showcase its latest accessibility upgrades. This initiative is part of a broader program to improve comfort and accessibility for all Hyundai drivers and passengers.
At the heart of the project lies the R1, a modular companion vehicle tailored for those with mobility needs. The R1's side-door boarding design enables passengers with mobility aids to ride with up to two other guests. For riders with vision or hearing impairments, the vehicle offers a high-contrast mode and a tablet in the rear seat to streamline communication with the driver.
Complementing the R1 offering is Shucle, Hyundai Motor's demand-responsive ride service. With the Shucle app, users can request vehicles instantly, slashing wait times and delivering precise ETAs driven by live demand. The program also introduces a voucher system for existing voucher taxi riders, granting up to two free rides each day. Vouchers are issued directly through the Shucle app, so there's no need to reach out to a mobility support center for verification.
