What's new for The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid?
The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is a great midsize sedan. It has a smooth powertrain, a comfortable ride, and an upscale cabin with plenty of standard features. Although the Sonata Hybrid's trunk is on the small side, its fuel economy is excellent.
Trims & Features
The 2022 Sonata Hybrid Blue utilizes premium cloth upholstery on the six-way driver's seat and four-way front passenger's seat. An 8.0-inch color touch screen with smartphone connections is standard inside this base trim. You'll also access the default Bluelink Connected Car System.
The middle SEL model works with the exclusive Hyundai Digital Key, which requires a properly enabled Android smartphone. A wireless phone charger and the Bose sound system are some other high-end technologies inside this trim.
You'll love the Limited's top-of-the-line technologies, such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch touch screen. This upscale trim also has the Blind-Spot View Monitor and a color head-up display. Additionally, the Limited includes a 64-color ambient lighting system and climate-controlled front seats with real leather trimming.

Horsepower
The Sonata Hybrid uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 32-kilowatt electric motor powered by a 1.7-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The total system output is 192 horsepower and can run on electricity alone at speeds up to 75 mph. However, it's not as peppy as many other hybrids because it uses such a tiny battery pack. Fuel economy ratings are 44/40 mpg city/highway for the Blue model and 46/44 mpg for the Limited model, which both use 17-inch wheels instead of 16s like the base model does.
Safety
The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the first car in Hyundai's lineup to earn the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) Top Safety Pick+ designation. It also made an overall five-star rating from the agency, thanks to the following results:
- Five stars in the frontal crash test.
- Five stars in the side crash test.
- Five stars in the rollover test.
- Four stars in the rear crash protection/head restraint test.
The 2022 Sonata Hybrid also earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The IIHS uses higher standards and stricter tests than NHTSA and has been criticized for setting criteria that many automakers say are too difficult to meet. A Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS requires good ratings in all six tests plus an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention technology. The Sonata Hybrid earned excellent ratings for front crash prevention and good ratings for all six crashworthiness tests.
