The seventh-generation 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid was recently unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, boasting new exterior styling that enhances its overall appearance and separates it from other models in the Sonata lineup. Tweaks to its front and rear fascias have improved its performance and additional changes made to the model have led to a 10-percent increase in fuel economy. Slated to arrive at Vandergriff Hyundai during the summer, the incoming 2016 Sonata Hybrid will be a perfect addition to the Sonata roster.
Several exterior modifications were made to the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in order to improve its performance for the new model year. It now dons a larger grille, updated front fenders, new front and rear lights, upgraded bumpers and new wheels. Changes to its front and rear fascias can also be attributed to its greater aerodynamics. The car's coefficient of drag is 0.24 this year, which is the lowest in its class and sits on par with the Tesla Model S.
In order to generate more power, the Sonata Hybrid has been outfitted with a 2.0L Nu GDI four-cylinder engine, six-speed automatic transmission and a stronger 38 kW electric motor. Together, the hybrid system delivers 193 horsepower; however, solo, the electric motor produces 51 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. With these new components, the Sonata Hybrid will deliver an EPA-estimated 42 mpg combined, 39 mpg city and 44 mpg highway, making it an excellent choice for hybrid enthusiasts.
