Performance

Your safety and comfort are so important to your daily commute. You would like a vehicle that looks attractive but does not need to be a high-end luxurious model. Fortunately, Hyundai has two commuter vehicles that meet these standards: the Elantra and the Sonata.

With its inline 4-cylinder engine at an average of 147-HP, the 2018 Elantra will bring you all the way to your workplace and back. The Hyundai Elantra features a standard six-speed automatic transmission with an optional seven-speed on the Eco and Sport models. The small stature also makes the Elantra easier to maneuver. The front-wheel drive offers 132 lb.-ft. of torque, but the feature that stands out is the fuel efficiency. With averages of 29 mpg City, 37 mpg Highway and 32 mpg Combined will mean fewer trips to the gas station to fill up the 14-gallon fuel tank.

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata has the same size engine as the Elantra but has a horsepower of 185-hp. There is a twin-scroll turbo upgrade with the 2.0T trims that output 245-hp. The drivetrain is similar to the Elantra, with an automatic or manual six-speed transmission and the seven-speed on the Eco trim. However, the 2.0T trims feature an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Appearance

The 2018 Hyundai Elantra four-door sedan has a narrow high-tensile strength steel body that will help this sleek looking car to easily fit into any parking spot. The modern appearance shows off his aerodynamic curves and flowing lines. The 2018 Sonata is a slightly larger four-door sedan. The exterior design highlights a cascading grille and a newly sculpted back shape.

Features

Both the Elantra and Sonata seat up to five passengers. They also have Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-traffic Alert to help detect surroundings. The Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist will help with staying on the road. Both cars also include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection to warn the driver of a potential collision. For nighttime driving, the headlights feature dynamic bending light that is synchronized with the direction of the steering wheel.

Some of the models of the Elantra and Sonata offer Apple Carplay and Android Auto that allow access to compatible smartphone apps from the car dashboard, thus preventing a distracted driving situation. Most models have Blue Link connection capability to access fuel/range status, remote start and car locks, all from your smartphone or smartwatch.

The Elantra offers thicker front side window glass and a newly designed frame to absorb noise and vibrations for a more comfortable ride. The easy access seating will auto-adjust your driver seat, giving enough room to step into the car. The different trim choices for the Elantra are SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Sport, and Limited.

The spacious 2018 Sonata offers plenty of room in the front for taller drivers. Trim models to choose from are SE, Eco, SEL, Sport, Limited, Sport 2.0T, and the Limited 2.0T. The NHTSA had awarded a 5-star overall safety rating for the 2018 model. Other features include the following: Dual climate control, Available Heated Steering Wheel, Front and Second-Row USB Charging, Wireless device charging.

Although the Elantra and the Sonata are both attractive yet comfortable commuter cars, a test drive at Vandergriff Hyundai can help with making a decision between them. For more information, feel free to visit or contact the showroom.
