Car Not Accelerating

There are several reasons why your car might not be accelerating properly. We're going to talk about the four most common causes and how they can be fixed. These are relatively minor issues that can be remedied easily, but they should still be addressed before your vehicle's sluggish performance becomes a severe problem.

A Dirty Mass Airflow Sensor or Oxygen Sensor

The mass airflow and oxygen sensors control the air-fuel mixture in your vehicle. They don't function very well when they get too dirty, which will impact your car's overall performance. A dirty mass airflow sensor can be cleaned by a repair professional, while a dirty oxygen sensor will need to be replaced.

A Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The throttle position sensor monitors the throttle valve opening angle and relays the data to your engine's computer so it can adjust your engine accordingly. If it malfunctions, your computer gets the wrong data and cannot make the proper adjustments. This leads to problems such as poor gas mileage and sluggish acceleration. This is a relatively quick fix, but it is also complicated enough that you should leave it to a repair professional.

A Clogged Fuel Filter

The fuel filter is what keeps sludge, dirt, debris, and other impurities out of your fuel. It also tends to prevent your engine from getting the fuel that it needs when it gets clogged. Replacing the filter should fix the problem.

A Dirty Air Filter

A dirty air filter will prevent your engine from getting enough airflow, affecting your gas mileage and your acceleration. Air filters need to be replaced regularly. This is often when you bring your vehicle in for an oil change, but check your owner's manual to learn how often your filter should be changed.

If your vehicle has been accelerating slowly and you suspect that any of these issues are to blame, contact Vandegriff Hyundai today to schedule an appointment. Our expert staff will be happy to address any concerns that you might have.

How to Update Maps on your Hyundai Vehicle?

Hyundai Navigation

When you buy a Hyundai model that was manufactured in 2017 or after, you get a navigation system that provides you with maps and traffic updates. Along with this service comes three years of free updates to your maps. Hyundai typically makes these updates in the spring and fall months. While you can have these maps updated at your next service appointment at Vandergriff Hyundai, you also have the option to upgrade them on your own. It's a pretty easy process that requires the use of a computer with an SD card reader.
